The Challenge

An industry leader in Alberta’s energy infrastructure sector with a growing presence in the oil sands and midstream industries, Pembina Pipeline required a series of 4-page brochures to help explain its methodology and plans for a proposed pipeline project to investors, stakeholders, and aboriginal communities. Pembina needed brochures that could clearly communicate pertinent project details and inform stakeholders of the company’s due diligence as regards the consultation, planning, and construction phases of the pipeline. With existing corporate brand, colours and typefaces, Atom Graphics was challenged with creating unique brochures that would still fit within the existing ‘family’ of design.

The Solution

The importance of communicating a strong environmental message influenced the design decisions made. In the interests of aesthetics and functionality, a great deal of ‘quiet space’ was used in the brochure layouts. The maps supplied to us by Pembina’s engineers included a lot of information that distracted from the important features of the pipeline. As a result, Atom Graphics completely recreated the maps and focused on key reference points to enhance overall readability and comprehension.

The Results

Flexible column grids and templates established attractive layouts for this series of brochures, and allowed for greater ease in the creation of future brochures. Jayson Fydirchuk of Pembina says, “The crew at Atom Graphics were very creative in designing project materials that met our company’s existing image, while introducing a fresh ‘look and feel’ for our proposed project.”

Atom Graphics is always a pleasure to work with.
